KEOKUK, Iowa. — VAMA Inc., a biotech firm, plans to lease space to set up manufacturing in Keokuk. The company intends to manufacture a product that combats parasitic mites that attack honey bees.

With headquarters in San Mateo, California, VAMA develops natural, effective and safe insect control products that are safe for humans and other animals.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority recently awarded the company a package of tax benefits under the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credit. The project represents a capital investment of $408,000 for the company and will create 45 jobs, of which 30 will pay a qualifying wage of $17.60 per hour
